Arvids Krastins

Mar 9th 1924 — Jan 27th 2022 (97 years)

Biography

Died peacefully January 27, 2022 in his 98th year, surrounded by family, at his cherished Willowdale home, with a view of squirrels and snowbanks in the garden.
Born in Rujiena, Latvia, eldest of 7 siblings. Ordered into army during high school and sent to serve as a soldier in WWII. Survived war horrors. Separated from family and unable to return to Latvia, started a new life alone in Canada. Worked as a draftsman at Ontario Ministry of Transportation for 30+ years. Wife (Rita) and daughters (Renate, Maira) will fondly remember his expressive blue eyes, stubbornness, silly humor, creative carpentry, and love of high places. Leaves behind sister (Gaida), family in Latvia. Arvids' boyhood home was in his thoughts until the end.
After a horrific year in the care of a nursing home in Woodbridge Ontario, family will be forever grateful to the very gracious Dr. Josephine Dunston, and Dr. Sandy Buchman (Medical Director of NYGH Freeman-Leong Geriatric Supportive Care Outreach). They made it possible for Arvids to live his final months with dignity.
Private family service will follow aquamation.
