Biography

It is with an immeasurable amount of sadness and a heavy heart that we share the passing of Fred Spohr.

Fred was born March 10, 1951 in Dortmund, West Germany, and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1960. He has called Milton his home since 1983.

Fred was a man who impacted everyone he met. Fred's passion for people was evident in every word he spoke, and his genuine interest in others was felt by all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

He was frequently found with his nose in a book, with an insatiable curiosity, he was eager to learn something new every day.

One of Fred's greatest joys in life was being with his beloved wife, Heike. He was her greatest champion and had loved her fiercely since the moment they met in a German discotheque in 1973. They were by each other's side ever since, and together created a lifetime of cherished memories. The pride and joy of their lives was their son Nik.

Fred passed on to Nik a love of music, debate, Borussia Dortmund, history, current affairs and politics.

The love and bond he shared with his family was unparalleled, and his presence brought warmth and joy to their lives.

Fred's passing has left us all mourning the loss of this most gentle and kind-hearted soul. While not a religious man, he embodied grace in the truest sense, emparting strength, love and understanding to all those he encountered. His unwavering love, respect (and often a supernatural level of patience) for those around him will never be forgotten.

Please plant a tree, as a celebration of continuing life.
