Ruby Wayling

Mar 31st 1929 — Nov 20th 2022 (93 years)

Biography

Ruby Madeline (Shaw) Wayling (1929 – 2022) was born in Carlsbad Springs, near Ottawa on the original Shaw homestead. Ruby grew up on the family farm and was the eldest of three children. She used to love dancing and would attend local social dances. While attending a square dance in Ottawa, she met Edward Wayling and after a romantic courtship, they were married in Ottawa in 1954.

After a short period of time they moved to Carlyle, Saskatchewan to settle down and raise a family. Eventually Ruby and Ed moved to Estevan, where they expanded their family and became involved in the community through the Anglican church and various community organizations.

In 1972, the family moved to Regina and continued to live here with family and friends. Ruby raised five independent children and provided strength to everyone around. She and Ed made countless trips across Canada and the United States to visit their family. In her later years, Ruby remained closely connected to her family; she was always keen for a chat and, often, a celery-garnished Caesar. She loved sewing, knitting, gardening, bowling, birdwatching, and helping out with church activities. Ruby could always be relied upon for birthday dates and milestones, as well as answering questions about family history: her memory remained sharp to the end.

Predeceased by her husband, Edward, her daughter, Darlene and her brothers, Edgar (Mary) and Orville (Ramona). Ruby is survived by her children, Sandy and Mary Wayling (Morgan & Katelyn, Lara & Ryan), Janice and Fred MacDonald (Shayne & Mandy, Marlo Ruby; Kyle & Nicole; Brett & Morgan); Brian Wayling and Laurie Fajardo (Jordan), Wendy and Louis Boissonneault (Tess & Benedict, Téa) and Darlene’s husband Jeff (Kyra & Lexi) and Darlene’s eldest daughter Alisha (Jaret). Also survived by family Heather, Kay, Ramona, Sandra, Diane, Mary, Erin, William, Betty, Dorothy, Elizabeth, and dear friends Belma, Betty, Donna, Duciel, and Marg.

Ruby will join Ed in the Saint Paul’s Cathedral Columbarium in Regina.
