Ruth Lichter

Mar 14th 1982 — Feb 26th 2022 (39 years)

Biography

It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of our beloved Ruth Elizabeth Lichter on February 26th, 2022 in Hamilton, Ontario.

Ruth was born in Lethbridge Alberta to parents Tilman and Patricia Lichter on March 14, 1982. She enjoyed an early life growing up in Southern Alberta where she developed a life-long love for the mountains and the natural world.

Ruth moved to Southern Ontario in her youth where she completed high school, and later a degree in Environmental Science at the University of Guelph. Ruth met the love of her life, Peter, while completing a Desert Ecology field course in Arizona where they fell in love under the desert stars.

Peter and Ruth began their world travels in South Korea, and in the years that followed, Ruth's country list grew to 30.

Ruth returned to school to obtain a degree in Nursing and dedicated herself to the care of others in that role for eight years. She was always striving to better herself and had recently started studying to become a Nurse Practitioner.

Ruth was a loyal bright light in the lives of all who were lucky enough to have known her, and she cared deeply for all those in her life. She was more than an Aunty to her niece Annabel and nephew Isaiah. She brought boundless energy to caregiving, supporting and loving them, and they adored her in return.

Ruth was one to bring people together and always shared her love of travel with others. She was a steadfast planner and organizer who spearheaded many adventures with her friends and family, and would always get such joy from doing so. Her excitement to return to travel was apparent with three trips planned this year.

Ruth had a profound love and enthusiasm for the natural world. Peter and Ruth found themselves booking travel specifically to see wildlife and they have observed and documented many hundreds of bird species together. She would ensure the binoculars were packed wherever they went. Ruth’s courageous spirit always kept her exploring. Whether Algonquin Park by canoe or Rio by foot, her heart never stopped searching for new adventures.

Ruth and Peter would also enjoy any spare time at home playing through their extensive board game collection.

She will be forever missed by her dedicated husband Peter Mammoliti, parents Tilman (Carol) and Patricia Lichter, sisters Anna (Wesley), Sarah (Roberto), step-brothers Stephen (Sophie), Mark (Viena), lifelong friend Oshan Ford, and the family of Michael and Maria Mammoliti.

She will also be dearly missed by her Gramma, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, and countless other family members and friends whose lives she enriched.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at The Waterfront Centre (555 Bay Street North Hamilton) on March 11, 2022 from 4 - 8 PM. Refreshments and cash bar available. Please feel free to bring a framed picture or memory of Ruth to add to a table for everyone to view.

Good bye for now my beautiful friend. You were a ray of sunshine in my life and my world was a better place because you were in it. You still are and always will be. You are my kindred spirit and nothing will ever change this. Most of my happiest memories have you & Pete in them. The ups and downs of living and working in Thailand, your gorgeous wedding and our road trip in Costa Rica, and our epic adventures in Brazil. Even though we lived so far apart most of the time, you were alway close in my heart and in my mind. You are just as close now. You are a beautiful soul and there is no one quite like you. There is less of me without you and I miss you, your light, your spark, and your smile. Until we meet again…

I feel very privileged and was very happy to have known and loved Ruthie for 37 of her 39 years. Pat and Tilman moved to Lundbreck Falls the same time I did. My daughter Oshan was one year old, and Ruthie was two. When the girls were young, including Sarah, I often took then out and about with me and called them my triplets, and often people would believe me! Especially when they were wearing their school dresses and the three of them had long blond braids. They did look like triplets! Of course I had to fess up and tell the truth a minute or so after my declaration, but it was fun to do! I love and cherish those memories and the fun times we had when the girls were growing up. And I was always very proud of Ruthie as she grew up, becoming a beautiful young woman with a gigantic heart. I love you Ruthie and will miss you so much.

Goodbye dear friend 😢you will forever be in my heart! Yes we'd lost contact when we left grade school but we have some good memories! Ruth was the one friend that I stayed up all night with! We finally went to bed at 8:00 in the morning...the Valentines Day parties at her house...climbing on the rocks in Lumbreck...Ruth was such a loyal friend! In the years that I've been "out east" we've went to Ontario some and I've wandered "I wonder where Ruth and Sarah are?" Now I wish I'd looked them up and made more good memories!! Wishing all you friends and family God's nearness! My 💜 and prayers are with you tomorrow and in the coming days!!

Ruth is like a ray of sunshine at work. Always cheerful, bubbly and positive. Always a good day when you get to work with her. Very easy to talk to, you always get good travel information from Ruth. Ruth, thank you for your advise. It was one of the best decision I’ve made during the pandemic years. We will miss you in HIU dearly. To Peter and all of Ruth’s family my deepest condolences..

An addition: Ruth was an integral part of our private school. She was an expressive person, and it seemed the other pupils learned or caught it from her... And ever since, tho she left, there's been better expression in our school programs. That was all part of her enthusiasm for life.

Pat used to have a garden out at our place which was about 4 miles SW of Pincher. Of course those 2 cute little girls wud come along and play as Mom took great care in weeding, picking spinach, etc. Sometimes the girls wud fight a bit, but Pat had a way of taking care of that. And at times they wud stay & have supper with us. Tilman built cedar chests for the 2 girls in our shop. And Anna,... She was kind of a part of our family as her and Luetta were such good friends. Good memories! My sympathies have been & are still with you all as a family. May you feel a comfort from above.

We were good Family friends with the family when they all lived in Alberta. So I seen her as a baby and small girl.I taught Ruthie in 4th grade. She was a very brilliant girl! Also had a very active imagination…. Loved that! I always think of her blonde hair, her cute mouth and her smile.😊

We wish comfort to Peter, and then to her parents and sisters. Sorry sorry is all we can say….🙏🏼

Ruth was a colleague in the HIU, hard-working, conscientious and kind. Her warm smile reflected her warm heart. From Ruth I learned the joys of “Wingspan”, and she always had tips to give about new board games. We exchanged favourite book titles as well, for she was a bookworm. When I think of Ruth, I see her smiling at me from across the table in the lunch room, discussing her latest career or travel plans. Or I see her flying into the locker room, cheeks flushed from her walk to work, cheerfully ready to tackle another working day. If you were working with Ruth, you knew you would have a good day, no matter what happened, because she was a generous, caring colleague who put others ahead of herself. Ruth was special, and will be very much missed in the HIU.

Such good memories of going to school with “Ruthie”..the last day of my grade 9, Ruth and I stood on the steps of that little school house, and sed goodbye to each other thru a hug and tears..Thankyou Pat for giving my sisters and I the fun of being welcomed many times into your home to enjoy being with your daughters. Ruthie was a kind hearted friend who wore her heart on her sleeve ..wish I could have known her after she left for Ontario…but will always treasure the friendship we shared as young girls growing up at the foot of the Rockies..🤍

I have sweet memories of the the time spent with Ruth in the classroom in a little country school in Pincher Creek, AB. She was tall and beautiful, and smart enough to teach me many things. Her work was always perfectly neat, and her imagination in writing and art was amazing.

We would wander along a little creek in spring when the water gurgling, and leave our work behind and give in to spring fever. One day she came to me and in her crisp voice asked me, "Miss Baerg, could you fill in for me at my babysitting job in the evening?" And so I did....

Also, my girl students all came for a sleepover once....precious memories!

May God hold Ruth's loved ones close as you treasure the memories, and walk the road of grief. I'm soo sorry....

Goodbye My friend, Ruth. I haven't connected with you for many years but I remember our carefree childhood times together with very fond memories. You were a beautiful friend. I loved singing tenor with you in school, and we tried very hard to excel in the Alberta fitness course. I loved it when my twin and I could spend time at your house in Pincher Creek... Eating Kraft dinners or listening to stories on your tape recorder. I thought of you many times and wish our paths could've crossed again! I love you, friend....

Ruth was a wonderful person to work with. She was incredibly kind, compassionate, and always willing to lend a helping hand to her coworkers and patients. We spent many night shifts talking about traveling adventures. So incredibly sad to hear of her passing. The world lost a wonderful person. ❤
